Splurge vs. Steal
I decided yesterday that I needed a leopard scarf, so I began the hunt. Get it, hunt, because it is leopard. Anyways. Much to my non-surprise, the one I first fell in love with was $555. Unfortunately, the state isn’t paying their employees that well, so I had to keep hunting. What do you think?
Here is the original one I fell in love with
Alexander McQueen ‘Leopard Skull’ Chiffon Scarf
And here are two other, more affordable, options that I found.
Aqua Leopard Scarf, Bloomingdales
Do you have a leopard scarf? If so, where did you find it?
Beauty Review
So I have officially jumped on the BB Creme bandwagon. My reasons in VERY particular order.
1) It removes about 5 minutes of my morning make-up regimen. MORE SLEEP.
2) I vowed to add the SPF for 2013.
3) Everyone’s doing it.
So naturally, like every other beauty product I want to try, I walked into Sephora and said, which BB Creme should I buy? The woman asked if I had any preferences, and I said SPF, tinted and matte finish. She lead me to this…
I love it. My shade is “Creme Glow”, and I have completely substituted my moisturizer, SPF, concealer, foundation and powder for this. It is not quite as matte as I wanted, so I do recommend a translucent finishing powder for a more polished look. I invested in Make Up For Ever HD Micfofinish powder, and it is AWESOME.
Do you have any new beauty products you are loving or hated?
Southward Apparel
A few months ago my freshman roommate asked me to “like” her new clothing line on Facebook. At first, I thought she was crazy… Who starts a business straight out of college. She does. But the more I looked into it, the more genius I thought she was.
Her line is simple, and it makes sense.
LA trends with Texas graphics. Relaxed, edgy and comfortable, but rustic and southern. Perfect for Austin.
I purchased my first Southward Apparel piece this morning, and I cannot wait until it gets to my doorstep!
Outlaw Off the Shoulder + Lone Star Sweater + Stars and Stripes V-neck + Saddle Up V-neck
I was super bummed that the Lone Star Sweater was sold out, but maybe next winter… Which piece is your fav?
An Emerald LOVE Affair
At first I wasn’t quite sure about the 2013 Pantone color of the year, but the more I see it, the more I love it. I am not quick to jump on new colors. My wardrobe is pretty much black, white and burnt orange. I pulled out an old Banana Republic mohair vest this morning and decided to give green a try.
My ABSOLUTE favorite emerald this season is doors. Yup, like the front one. Check out this beauty I found on Pinterest.
Although, I don’t think my apartment management would be very happy with me painting my door green… So, I think I might try some of these:
An emerald painting found on Etsy.
Emerald accessories: scarf + ring + handbag
A dress or blazer for the closet
Are you trying any emerald this year? If so, what?
Throw down.
I have a serious addiction to throws. The more I say “throw”, the weirder it sounds.
Yes, blankets. As in, you can only use one at a time, and I have about ten of them in my small apartment. Oops.
I think it may be that they add the perfect pop of color, but it is probably because I like to nap. Truth.
Expensive throws may look nice, but I like to use my throws, and nobody likes drooling on a $500 blanket…
So, I have found this for you. Mmm Hmmm, you are welcome.
Nordstrom Space Die throw (Currently on sale)
However, if you are interested in drooling on a $500 blanket, here is a Missoni beauty for you.
Happy napping my friends!
A necklace, a recipe and accountability
I’m kicking off 2013 with a crush on a necklace, a recipe for 8 that I made for myself, and my food diary put on blast. I am also trying to find a way to merge all of these into one post. Let’s see how that goes.
Isn’t think Kate Spade necklace to die for? I stumbled upon it at Nordys while shopping for other people. Always. So, I have decided that if I meet my goal weight (keep reading to get to that part) and it is still to be found, I will reward myself. BOOM! PS. It comes in three color options.
I bought ingredients last week to make my favorite meat sauce recipe b/c I thought the mister was coming to town this weekend. But he didn’t. But I made the meat sauce anyways. And it is a recipe for 8 people. And it was just me. Judge if you want. PS. I don’t put the celery in it.
Lastly, I downloaded this app about a year ago to track calories and exercise. I know many people who have had great success with food/exercise journaling, and I read great reviews about My Fitness Pal. I used it here and there, but I never stayed devoted. Welp, I’m digging in. A couple of friends and old co-workers have decided that we are going to make our food journals public and keep each other accountable. Seeing as boyfriend signed us up for one of those muddy obstacle run things, I’m thinking this isn’t such a bad idea. Feel free to follow along and heckle my fitness wall! My username is britsauer.
And that my friends/readers/bloggers is what is happening in my life right now. Oh yeah. I am also SUPER busy with real job. Womp Womp!
The tale of the Christmas boots…
I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of black boots for about three months now. At first I thought I wanted a heeled boot, but after making my new 3/4 mile walk to and from work, I decided flat boots would be GREAT! I was after Thanksgiving shopping with T when I stumbled upon these beauties…. The Tory Burch Calista Riding Boot.
Love at first sight.
The salesman at Neiman Marcus said “You should get them now, they won’t be here long.” To which I replied, “I just can’t justify buying myself such nice boots right before Christmas.” I actually just thought he was in it for the commission MOOLAH. Turns out he was right…
T went to find the boots a couple of weeks later, and they were no more. BUT fear not my fellow readers! See, I have the most amazing boyfriend in the world. He called Saks, Bloomingdales, Shopbop, Neimans, Bergdorf Goodman, and Tory Burch directly, until he got an insider secret. A boutique in New York. He called and they had one pair in my size! What are the odds?! They even shipped them to him for free. Christmas Angels, I tell ya.
This was by far the biggest Christmas surprise, and I am probably the most lucky girl in the world. A man that will hunt down the perfect TB boots, I should put a ring on it. JK! But for real, I will cook him an amazing dinner this weekend. If you are lucky, I will post pics and a recipe…
Unfortunately, I do not have a link for this boot since they are sold out everywhere, BUT the ‘Jenna’ is on super sale at Nordstrom!
Holiday Tour of Texas
I am going to be traveling so much in the next 10 days that last night when I was supposed to pack, I just sat on my bed and stared at my empty suitcases. Needless to say, I ended up watching the football game and going to bed without even getting started. Below is a little glimpse at some of the travel my trusty 4runner, scooter, and I will be doing until 2013, along with some mixing and matching pieces I intend to throw in when I get off work this afternoon.
My favorite black skinnies + Trusty black smoking slippers + A festive holiday plaid + Ever so comfy denim skinnies + A little sparkle for NYE + A lucky elephant necklace + The perfect riding boots + A sweater for layering + My ‘boyfriend’ chambray shit
What are you packing for your holiday travel?
Get me out of here!
Austin has been cold for about 3 days, and I am officially ready to go somewhere warmer. Where is your favorite tropical destination? I’m thinking this doesn’t look to bad…
Oh. Em. Gee. Tis Friday!
This week has seriously dragged on. Dragged. Is that the right word there? Maybe it’s drug. Oh well, it’s Friday!
Today after a busy day of meetings, I am headed to San Antonio to celebrate 3 years with Big T. We are starting with a Spurs (his home team) vs. Rockets (my home team) game tonight, and then spending some time with his family. Tomorrow we will HOPEFULLY sleep in a little and then grab lunch at our favorite Boerne lunch spot, Bumdoodlers. Don’t let the name deter you. Bums, to the locals, is friggin’ awesome!
Trav always tries to surprise me, but I don’t really do “suspense”, so he let me guess where we are going for dinner. After 5 guesses, he gave me a hint: “The first surprise you ever ruined”. Hudson’s on the Bend in Austin! It is where we spent our first Valentines together. Needless to say I think the weekend calls for some spandex pants.
Here are some pictures for you to enjoy of T and me over the last three years. (Sorry there are so many, I couldn’t decide!)
This is one of my all time favs! T and me with Bevo in California the day of the 2009 National Championship game.
We’ve been to a few sorority/fraternity formals…
(Doesn’t T look so handsome in a tux?)
We’ve also seen our share of UT Football games together. Dallas, Houston, Austin, California, Oklahoma, and next is San Antonio.
We don’t have a standard pose or anything…
My graduation (in the SHINING sun) and Trav’s graduation.
Not always too serious. The left was a halloween where I was a party animal and T was a doctor. He also looks pretty nice in scrubs… The right was after I got my “boy haircut” (words of Travis). By boy, he must have meant Hanson brother.
Sorry this post ended up so personal, but this guy makes me pretty happy. I was just going to document our plans for the weekend. Oops!
